Design & Display
The phone has the typical trendy iPhone X notch design and looks a bit similar to the famous Huawei Honor 8 as well. So, it is kind of a mix between these two phones. You can also say, a Huawei iPhone with Android OS. Another catchy thing about the design is its backside. It looks individualistic and shiny. The display is a 5.84” full HD+ full-view display. It is worth the price by all mean. It is excellent for watching videos most of all. The screen is also bright enough for outdoor use under sunlight. But you may not consider it as the brightest one. Unfortunately, there is no display protection, but it is still quite stable without a gorilla glass and may survive little damages.
Camera & Video
Huawei Nova 3e comes with a dual 16+2 primary camera. It is not a Leica one like the flagship P20 and P20 pro. It will also not capture flagship quality photos. But it is pretty decent for the price and has all kinds of modes like in a professional camera such as bokeh mode, pro mode, exposures, shutters, autofocus, etc. and even AI mode to replace backgrounds and so on. But the front camera is a more prominent one. 16 MP f/2.0 aperture camera with flash, full HD video recording, bokeh, panorama, etc. are quite useful features for frequent front camera users. Night mode is ok, but you may need to experiment with modes and lighting a bit to get the right shots. These are not the best cameras with wow factor but fine for this budget.
Network, Battery & Overall Performance
4G Network and wifi connection should run pretty smoothly as far as the phone is concerned. The battery may let a regular user go through a whole day with 5 hours display on. So, it is nothing extraordinary. But Huawei’s quick charge 2.0 will give fine support to the battery and can do a full charge within just 90 minutes. 4 GB RAM, Octa-core up to 2.36 GHz CPU, Android Oreo 8.0, Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset and Mali-T830 MP2 GPU ensures excellent overall performance. It means excellent multitasking and no lags while browsing, using apps, etc. Gaming is fine too. But you may have some occasional slowdowns or lags while playing big HD games. However, it should not be that disturbing.
Other Features
Among the other mentionable features, there is quick face unlock, accurate and fast fingerprint sensor, good sound quality through a mono speaker and HUAWEI Histen 4.0 audio, USB Type-C, OTG and cool interface customization through the new EMUI 8.0.
Disadvantages
There is no 4K video recording option on this phone which you can demand in a phone in this price range. The video may also be quite shakey for regular outdoor video recording users since there is no video stabilization. But the most significant disadvantage is indeed that there is no display protection for such a fantastic display. So, casual users who drop their phone quite often, may not want to consider this phone at all.
